Our training methods include two types of areas. The one to one classes where owners learn behaviour methods related to obedience exercises that can be used as tools to lead your dog through behavioural therapy. Even dogs without behavioural issues benefit from these exercises as the dog learns how to behave in the presence of other dogs and people so maximising his enjoyment of the experience without being a nuisance to his owner. The dog sees other dogs going through the same exercises as he is and this in itself helps the socialising process.
Social skills dogs are sometimes missing because as puppies they were taken away from their mother and siblings at a very early age. Others loose these skills through lack of practice. However, these can be re – introduced to them fairly easily. Social skills for dogs begin by smelling each other In difficult behavioural cases the dog will not be tolerant enough to allow it or social enough to perform it without excessive dominance.
If a dog is in fear in the presence of other dogs , because of past bad experiences or because he has a "shy gene" or even simply because of lack of socialization and you try to force him to smell or allow another dog to smell him , the dog can get aggressive. This is because the dog envisages that he has been put in a "fight or flight" situation. The dog lacking in social skills will either dispaly aggression or in the best scenarion case simply ignore the sniffing dog.
In the case of a dominant or aggressive dog he must learn to control himself so that neither he nor the other dog will be in danger, Please note that the dominant dog's behaviour may not result in a fight ( if the other dog is submissive it will be able to tolerate the encounter more easily) but the dominant dog has to learn not to intimidate other dogs to benefit from the experience .
All the exercises of our classes are long distance as you can appreciate in the pictures of this page so imagine the level of control that you can achieve in a couple of weeks with our behavioural methods and procedures .
Do not try these simple exercises without the help of a professional because it can be dangerous( not only physically but mentally also) for your dog .
